Additional A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry, Book 1) Information

"All it would take was my true name being mentioned after dark, and it would float back to my aunt. She was the Queen of Air and Darkness, and that meant that anything said in the dark was hers to hear, eventually. The fact that spotting the missing Elven American Princess had become more popular than spotting Elvis helped. Her magic was always chasing blind leads. Princess Meredith skiing in Utah. Princess Meredith dancing in Paris. Princess Meredith gambling in Vegas. After three years I was still a front-page story for the tabloids, though the latest headlines had been speculating that I was as dead as the King of Rock and Roll . . ."

In fact, Meredith has been posing as a human in Los Angeles, living as a private investigator specializing in supernatural crime. But now Doyle, the Queen's chief bodyguard and assassin, has been dispatched to fetch her back - whether she likes it or not. And suddenly Meredith finds herself a pawn in her dreaded aunt's plans . . . plans that affect the future of the entire UnSeelie Court. The requirements of the job: to enjoy the constant company of the most beautiful - and immortal - men in the world. The reward: the crown - and the opportunity to continue to live. The penalty: death.

What Customers Say About A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry, Book 1):

This book is imaginative, thrilling and Merrys character just shines. Normally im a fast reader and can read a book in about a day, but this book of about 400 plus pages i read in one afternoon. I couldnt put this book down for a second. I have already read all the books to this series up to date and just had to read this one again. It was that great. I was already addicted to Anita Blake and thought LKH couldnt possible match her , boy was I wrong. I know there is some negative press going around about The Anita and Meredith series but I urge each and everyone of you to at least try these books for yourself and form your own opinions. Happy Reading.

I like the world the author created, and the plot was interesting and fast-paced, for the most part. I tried once before, but couldn't seem to get into it. I downloaded this one as a Kindle freebie awhile back and just got around to reading it. I did see a lot of similarities to the Anita Blake series, but enough differences to make worthwhile to me. The beginning chapters seemed a little slow to me, so I assumed the rest would be, too. I'm glad I gave it another chance because it ended up being a pretty good read. (The author does certainly seem to have more than a passing interest in long hair for men, though). Overall, it was a good read, and I'm planning on reading the next in the series to see where it leads.

I thought the story was fun and a great fantasy for any woman who wouldn't mind a harem of beautiful men. I can understand that people might think some of the parts of the story were perverse or disgusting, but I read this book as if I was reading about a completely alien culture (which I was) and the weirdness of it all made it feel more real to me. I think that if this immortal race had the same attitudes as us about sex, it would not only be boring, but surprising that they were so much like us after thousands of years. :) The author could definitely cut back on the descriptions and the phrase "the pain was sharp and immediate" was used like 4 times, but it was a fun tale to get lost in. It was certainly nice to read something that really felt new for a change.

Ok, I enjoyed the book. As I said, I enjoyed it and look forward to the next one. P.I.

First off the warning: adult book here. Meredith Gentry is Meredith NicEssus of the Unseelie Court of sidhe, hiding for years, but now called home, dangerous as it is. I am a new reader of Hamilton, well I read on Anita Hill book long ago, and decided on faeries over vampires, so I picked up A KISS OF SHADOWS.

Well, forget that in this book, I guess later books. One more thing, this is a book that is common in series, it sets up the series so lots of back ground and the reader must work to get a handle on the creatures, faeries, sidhe, brownies, goblins, orges and oh yes, humans. The cover says Meredith Gentry.

Sex is a giant topic in this book, be aware. Recommended.

Uh-oh, looks like reading this un-edited drivel is just as bad as listening to it. Because I enjoyed the Anita Blake series, I really wanted to like this series, too.

I only made it through Chap 6 before I gave up. The lack of plot, repetitive (read: on and on and on and on.).

I checked out the audio version of A Kiss of Shadows from the library. And, what was worse is that with an audio book it is pretty much impossible to skip to the next actual development in the plot (such as it is, and as of the end of Chap 6, it isn't much).

descriptions of body parts, clothing, hair, etc. were agonizing.

I thought of trying again with a hardcopy version of the book, but then I checked out the other reviews. I'd give this book zero stars if there were such a rating.
